So that’s what the Sound Effects Disabler Magisk Module does. It isn’t an equaliser or a bass booster and so on. It’s the “mute button” for all those “audio effects” that OEMs force upon us via software.
What Does This Module Actually Do?
A short and simple ROM module aimed at cleaning up the Audio system on Android. Rather than trying to pile even more audio effects on top of the probably rubbish ones that come with the ROM, this actually removes all of them which is my main reason for liking it. The module is compatible with most common root tools including Magisk, KernelSU Next, and APatch.
The Highlights:
- Total Silence for Effects: Turns off all sound effects.
- Loader Bypass: Used to tell the audio effects loader to do pretty much nothing.
- Universal Compatibility: Works flawlessly via Magisk, KernelSU, and APatch.
- The “Reset” Trick: Oh, I love this part. I’ll get to the reason to use system audio as a buggy bug in a minute.
My Real-World Experience
Used it to fix a particular problem. I was experiencing an annoying issue where the Dolby on my phone was stuck and every podcast would sound like I was sitting in a bathroom. I didn’t want to fiddle with EQs and get into complicated placement and psychoacoustic business. I just wanted the awful bathroom sounding to go away.
I flashed this module and cycled the system on. Now my audio is clean and analog. Bye bye digital shimmer on the high end.
WARNING: DO NOT USE! If you actually use or like Viper4Android, JamesDSP or your phone’s Dolby Atmos, DO NOT INSTALL THIS ROM! These equalizers/audio enhancements WILL BE KILLED!
How to Fix Broken Audio (The Pro Move)
I’m having some issues with my built-in sound effects which are malfunctioning and crashing out. I’m going to try and use this module as a system cleanser to get things working properly again. Here is the order of events I followed.
- Install the Sound Effects Disabler module.
- Reboot your device (this clears the active cache for those effects).
- Uninstall the module.
- Reboot again.
This usually gets the system back in the running and stops the recurring “Audio Effects has stopped” pop-ups.
The Bottom Line
A purist may wish the purest possible signal to emanate from their sound system or headphones, and someone else may be attempting to repair their audio system. This utility will be invaluable to them. Bebug has created a lightweight tool that fulfills its stated purpose without mucking up the system partition.
