Module Overview
The Overview
Ghost GMS is a root-level Magisk module designed to strip down Google Mobile Services (GMS) background activity. By targeting unnecessary analytics, location polling, and ad-tracking components, it reduces Google Play Services battery drain while maintaining core Android functionality.
My Experience
I've been running the Core version on my daily driver to tame those random Play Services battery spikes. Under the hood, it cuts off relentless GMS wake-locks and telemetry without breaking my Gmail sync or push notifications. Just remember to give the system a couple of days to settle—the idle drain noticeably dropped for me after the 48-hour mark.
Core Features
- Kills background tracking by disabling persistent ad-ID hooks and passive telemetry reporting.
- Less GPS polling since the module strictly restricts extra location and geofence overhead.
- Clean uninstall system that creates detailed logs to safely restore your original GMS properties if you remove the mod.
- Pick your poison during setup by choosing between the safe Core version or the deeper, more aggressive Legacy build.
Support & Requirements
- Root Requirement: Magisk
- Supported Android Versions: Android 10 through Android 16 (Android 8.x and 9 have limited testing)
How to Install
- Flash the downloaded GhostGMS .zip file directly through the Modules tab in Magisk.
- Use your volume keys during the installation prompt to choose between the Core or Legacy branch.
- Reboot your phone and let it run normally for 24 to 48 hours so Android's background behavior can recalibrate.
