Extra Dim Toggle is a lightweight rooted Android utility that instantly flips the system "Reduce bright colors" setting. It operates via a dedicated app, Quick Settings tile, or widget, reducing screen brightness below hardware minimums without altering core system files.

Technical Details

This utility functions by executing a privileged su command (settings put secure reduce_bright_colors_activated) off the main UI thread. It directly interacts with the native Android secure settings to force display brightness below the standard slider minimum, functioning entirely without changing base partitions.

Core Features of Extra Dim Toggle

  • Multiple Triggers: Toggle the dimming state via a Material 3 app interface, a Quick Settings tile, or a launcher widget.
  • Battery Saving: Drops brightness below the default minimum values, ideal for night reading and OLED panel power conservation.
  • Thread Safe: Executes all root commands entirely off the main thread to prevent interface freezing or lag.
  • Zero Alterations: Interacts solely with existing secure settings rather than rewriting or flashing protected OS files.

Support & Requirements

Requires Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer and a rooted device with su installed (compatible with Magisk, KernelSU, or APatch) to grant application permissions.

How to Install Extra Dim Toggle

  1. Download the release .apk file to your local device storage.
  2. Install the application.
  3. Open the app and grant Superuser (root) permission when prompted.

Disclaimer: Extra Dim is a built-in system feature; this app only toggles the setting and does not alter any system files.
