If your phone tends to stubbornly stick to a bad WiFi connection so that it can refuse to switch to a faster one instead, we’re with you there. When you’re running websites, downloading files or even just looking at pictures, dropping to a single WiFi bar just isn’t acceptable. Smartphone operating systems tend to have a nasty habit of sticking with a slow connection for far too long, only to finally switch to something much better when it’s almost too late. If you’re tired of this nonsense, read on.
For roaming and handoff issues on Android, I personally find the WiFi Smart Roam Magisk Module to be one of the most effective solutions out there. In my time covering Android tweaks, I’ve tried everything to help users alleviate roaming issues, and this module goes the extra mile in making sure you’re on the best connection possible – without having to disable and re-enable your WiFi manually in order to force handoff.
Features
- Dual-Condition Roaming: The module does not have to wait for your signal to die. It actively checks the connection and roams to the closest Wi-Fi signal when your current AP RSSI drops to -50dBm.
- Sticking to 2.4GHz isn’t just slow, it’s crowded- this tool helps you switch to 5GHz: Persistent 5GHz Preference ensures that, as opposed to relying on manual intervention to switch to 5GHz, the tool continuously scans for the 5GHz signal and automatically changes to it as soon as it is within range, provided the signal strength exceeds -70dBm and is on the same SSID.
- Aggressive Cellular Handoff: WiFi will always be our first choice when possible, but with increasing WiFi outages and dead-zones, our new NetPack technology gives weight to choosing cellular for connectivity. If cellular RSRP readings are -85dBm or greater, Net can be actively hand-failed over to and then back to WiFi. If just creeping over threshold and signal strength varies slightly, NetPack technology will allow for periodic roaming to stay on strongest connection even above -85dBm.
- Deep System Integration: This add-on requires Magisk permanent ROOT to be able to function at its full potential. It is a background running module which starts up automatically every time you boot your phone and will silently continue to function as long as your device is active.
- Customizable timers: You are always in control. By default ndc – will by default run a check every 15 seconds with a 60 second cooldown. These values can of course be changed inside the configuration file and adjusted to suit your environment. The values will be located at the top of the configuration file.
This app is AMAZING for those of us who want to fine-tune their phone’s connectivity. It is extremely lightweight and does its job very efficiently. It basically cures one of the most annoying default behaviors on android and does it without having to reflash your vendor partition.
